Murchison falls national park offers one of Africa's most magnificent sites; the Nile river squeezes through a rock cleft approximately 6 m wide and cascades wildly for 39 m in the water fall that has been described as the most spectacular thing to happen to the Nile along its 6700 km length. The park derives its name from this waterfall. In addition to the remarkable wildlife, this park provides one of Africa's most stirring sights.

A boat launch takes you to the foot of the magnificent thundering falls. Crocodiles and yawning hippos revealing large razor-sharp tusks abound along the river banks paying little attention to the boat. Thousands of birds including the rare shoebill stork and elephant herds can also be sited en route to the falls. Sport fishing is also carried out along the Nile, or at the foot of the falls; Anglers sometimes pull Nile perch weighing 50 kg and over, out of the pool at the foot of the falls!  

Game drives in this incredible park offer an opportunity for visitors to spot numerous herd species such as buffaloes and elephants that wander the extensive grassy plains of the savannah. Also on display are giraffe, lions, leopard and hyena.

Wait, we are not yet done; at the southern boundary of the park is Budongo Forest Reserve; a dense virgin tropical rain forest. Kaniyo Pabidi is one site that has been set up for chimpanzee viewing and is just a few minutes drive from the park entrance, other primates such as the black and white and red colobus, red tail, baboons and L'Hoest monkeys can also be seen. Other attractions in this forest are the prolific bird life, and the huge mahogany trees some estimated to be over 300 years old!
