Covering an area of approximately 330 square kilometers; Bwindi is one of the richest forests in Africa. It has been declared a World Heritage Site because of this widely diverse and unique flora and fauna.

Mountain Gorilla tracking is arguably the greatest attraction in Africa. These gentle giants are threatened by extinction; there are only 700 individuals left in the entire world! Gorillas live in family groups, some of which have been habituated for Ecotourism. The groups are have a mixed age and sex structure, and comprise of 15 to 30 individuals headed by mature males dubbed silverbacks for the saddles of gray hair they develop.

Bwindi is one of the most exciting destinations in Africa, including 23 birds endemic to the Albertine rift valley in which the park is located. Several endangered bird species such as the African Green Broadbill and Rwenzori Turacos can be sighted.

Other attractions include forest elephants, duikers, bushbucks, and giant forest hog, as well as a host of bird and insect species. While in Bwindi, visitors also have the opportunity to experience the culture of the forest dwelling peoples (the Batwa).
